General Education Digital Badging

Beginning in Fall 2022, students have the exciting opportunity to earn a Digital Badge in their General Education courses.

What is a Digital Badge?

A digital badge is a type of credential that demonstrates you have displayed core skills in a specific area (such as communication). As you advance throughout your academic career, you’ll continue to build on these skills to develop proficiency in these key areas.

Recognizing the importance of these badges, the 2021 Florida Legislature approved a statute that public post-secondary institutions must award students a nationally recognized digital badge upon completion of general education core courses that demonstrate career readiness, beginning with students who initially enter a post-secondary institution in the 2022-2023 academic year.

How Do I Get One?

Beginning Fall 2022, students who earn a grade of C or better in ENC 1101 or ENC 1102 (or who have received a passing grade through accelerated methods) will automatically be awarded a badge. This badge will be noted on your transcript, and you will also receive an email from Badgr with the digital badge. Please visit Digital Badging for more information about Badgr and adding the badge to your LinkedIn account.

Why is This Badge Important?

Digital Badges are a tangible way to show future employers that you have vital, transferable skills for the workplace. As you develop these skills throughout your academic journey, you will be able to show future employers specific skills that make you a qualified and competitive candidate. Digital badging will provide additional resources for how to best display these skills to future employers.
