Dr. Zhiyong Hu specializes in applications of geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial analysis and modeling in urban land use/cover dynamics, environmental studies, and environmental health.

v  Attended the UWF and the regional community college articulate day.

v  Facilitated a community K-12 education outreach activity: FUN WITH SCIENCE – GIS Day for high school students from local and Alabama. Students and their parents have shown great interest in geospatial technology and have expressed their intent to pursue GIS studies at UWF.

v  Judge of the 54th - 56th Annual West Panhandle Regional Science & Engineering Fair.

v  2006-2009, Chair, Gulf Coast Chinese American Association.

-          In May 2008, I co-organized an earthquake disaster relief charity donation activity with UWF International Center and Florida-China Linkage Institute. The activity collected over $10,000 which was donated to the victims in China.

-          Assisted new UWF Chinese students.
