The mission of the Virtual Business Accelerator is to develop
and promote effective methods of technology transfer.
The project recognizes the key role of universities and federal
labs in creating intellectual property and will develop and implement
curricula and tools to facilitate the commercialization process,
as well as the cultivation of entrepreneurial skills in high impact
areas.
- Develop GIS tools to
address business marketing and planning needs.
This component of the VBA will deliver digital media
products, GIS-based information, data series and custom research
which serves the information needs of economic development organizations
across the state as they strive to attract businesses in key
industrial sectors.
- Enhance online delivery of business development materials via
the Haas Center
for Business Research and the Small
Business Development Center.
- Develop/deliver certificate programs
focused on business methods and strategies via UWF
MBA program.
Academic programs include a certification
with a focus on developing management tools to facilitate technology
startups.

- Enhance activities of the Gulf
Coast Alliance for Technology Transfer (GCATT).
The Gulf Coast Alliance for Technology Transfer provides an
explicit linkage between Florida universities and Federal research
labs. The VBA expands the GCATT mission into key industrial
sectors with an increased focus on the laboratory to market
process, including:
-assess available research
-estimate market potential
-research intellectual property issues
-identify licensing issues and opportunities
-address project revenue distribution

The Virtual Business Accelerator
provides a delivery channel for information on the technology commercialization
process for small business entrepreneurs. UWF is home to the Florida
Small Business Development Center Network. Floridas SBDCs
are ideally positioned to serve as a delivery channel for information
on the technology commercialization process for small business entrepreneurs.
Expansion of Floridas technology based-industries through
export growth is key part of Enterprise
Florida's vision.
