Background information:
The presidential selection process approved by the University of West Florida Board of Trustees charges the Trustee Search Committee (TSC) with making a recommendation to the full Board. The TSC received three presidential finalists from the 38-member Search Advisory Committee, comprised of university and community representatives. One candidate subsequently withdrew. The TSC interviewed the final two candidates: Dr. John Cavanaugh, vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina; and Dr. David Eisler, provost at Weber State University in Utah. Both candidates spent two days on UWF campuses, meeting with students, faculty, staff and community members. All participants had opportunity to submit their comments to the TSC. The TSC also arranged for reference checks. A criminal background check and credit report also were conducted.
The Board of Trustees decision on the presidential appointment is then sent to the Florida Board of Education for ratification.
