1. Topic Selection. You may select either a general or a specialized topic for individual study. If you take a general topic, I will expect you to prepare an annotated bibliography in the steps outlined below. For more specific topics, you may be authorized to write a unified essay to discuss your bibliographic work. All essay topics must be approved in advance; once selected, you may not change topics without permission. You should select a topic as early in the term as possible and submit it on the accompanying form.
2. ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY STEPS:
| a. | Prepare a list of books relating to your topic. | |
| b. | Prioritize the list based upon your interests. | |
| c. | Begin reading with the idea of writing a two-page (500 word) synopsis. | |
| d. | If a book does not satisfy your needs, move on to the next one on your list. | |
| e. | Save all drafts of your writing and submit them with your final synopsis. | |
| f. | You should write reviews for at least three books. | |
| g. | Abstract your reviews to a length of 100-150 words. | |
| h. | Submit your book references with the 100-word annotations on a single
page, accompanied by the long reviews and all writing drafts. The packet should be in the order: | |
| 1. | annotated bibliography page | |
| 2. | 1st review | |
| 3. | 1st review draft material | |
| 4. | 2nd review (and draft) | |
| 5. | 3rd review (and draft) | |
| etc. |
3. ESSAYS: If you are authorized to complete an essay, I will
advise you concerning the length and focus. You will be given a writing
guide covering style, references, etc., at that time.
