Speaker Bio - Dr. Dale AdamsDr. Dale
Thomas Adams served as Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of
South Alabama from 1995 until his retirement in February 2008. Prior to becoming the Vice President, Dr.
Adams served as an Assistant Professor of Education and Dean of Student
Services. A few of his accomplishments
at USA included developing 8 fraternity and sorority houses for lease back,
establishing an Office of Minority Services, developing an Office of Substance
Abuse Prevention, leading a renovation project of single family dwellings in
housing area for students, planning and developing several new residence halls,
opening a $4.5 million dollar Recreation Center, establishing a Faculty Mentor
Program and Freshmen advisory Board, and establishing the Office of Special
Student Services.
Prior to
joining the University of South Alabama, Dr. Adams served as Associate Vice
President for Student Development at the University of Louisville which included
seven months as Acting Vice President for Student Affairs. He has over 20 years of experience in Student
Affairs and has over 2 dozen publications and/or presentations to his credit as
well as numerous grants. Dr. Adams has
served as Chair for the SACSA Local Arrangements Committee for the 1996
conference in Mobile, Director of the NASPA/SACSA Mid-Managers Institute, Chair
of the SACSA Research Committee, and NCAA Faculty Representative for the
University of South Alabama. Dr. Adams
has received the John Jones Award, NASPA Region III, Outstanding Dean of
Students in the South.
Dr. Adams
holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Cincinnati Bible College, a
Master of Education degree specializing in counseling from Xavier University in
Cincinnati, and a Doctor of Education majoring in counseling with minors in
education psychology and interpersonal communications from the University of
Cincinnati.
