Blue directional signs are designed to help visitors and newcomers find their way to various locations on campus. Care is taken to respect the natural beauty of our campus by keeping the number of signs to a minimum. It is recommended that university employees become familiar with the wording on campus signs so they can use the information to give accurate directions to guests.
Requesting Signs
New signs may be requested on a work request form submitted to Planning and Design for layout/formatting. The request will then be forwarded to University Marketing Communications for approval. Report signs that need to be updated on Nautical via a work request form at http://cmmsweb.pome.uwf.edu/home.html.
The UWF exterior signage system has three levels; road signs, building signs and occupant signs.
ROAD SIGN GUIDELINES

- Road signs, (3' x 4') the largest of the three types of signs, are designed to direct drivers to the area of campus nearest their destination. Road signs are placed along the right side of the roadway. Signs instructing a driver to turn should be placed approximately 50 feet before the turn. Visitors are routed to the Welcome Center to get detailed directions, a campus map and a temporary parking permit. Sign placement priority is given to locations most often visited.
BUILDING SIGN GUIDELINES

- Building signs, (2' x 3'), are designed to direct pedestrians to specific buildings. They are placed along sidewalks near the parking lots, sidewalks in the interior of campus and in the vicinity of buildings to reassure people that they are approaching the correct building. Building numbers and building names (or function) are displayed on these signs.
OCCUPANT SIGN GUIDELINES

- Occupant signs, (18" x 30"), are designed for pedestrians approaching the entrance to buildings. They list the "general" offices that are within the building and are placed as close as possible to the main entrances. Occupant signs list offices, not specific people. They do not give directions for the interior of the buildings. Occupant signs may include building numbers to distinguish clusters of buildings from one another.
