The Alliance for Medical Informatics at UWF is piloting a 2.0 CME/CEU mini-course on Electronic Health Records with members of the health care community. This mini-course consists of:

• Narrated PowerPoint Presentation - approximately two hours of the latest facts versus hype on Electronic Health Records, using current resources that are updated quarterly
• Quiz for CME/CEU credit
• Access to Online Resources - including:
  • Links to the latest literature
  • Access to the most recent chapter on the topic from Medical Informatics: Practical Guide for Healthcare and Information Technology Professionals, 4th Edition.

• Describe the key components and features of the EHR
• Enumerate the problems with paper records
• List the advantages of the EHR
• Compare and contrast several examples of decision support
• Describe the barriers to EHR adoption
• Analyze the differences between the client-server and ASP models
• Evaluate the steps towards purchasing an EHR
• Describe several implementation issues
• Locate an RFP form
• Construct a matrix to compare a variety of products
• Defend the strengths and weaknesses of an EHR using an evaluation matrix
• Appraise an evaluation matrix and defend its use to make recommendations regarding commercial EHR products
• Analyze questions to ask an EHR vendor

• It takes 12-18 months to purchase, train, and implement an EHR - start now to get reimbursed in 2011.
• Get the inside scoop on return on investment, with a discussion of articles such as: Miller, R.H., West, C., Brown, T.M., Sim, I., & Ganchoff, C. (2005). "The value of electronic health records in solo or small group practices". Health Affairs. 24(5):1127-1137.

Mini-courses are priced at $20.00 per CME/CEU credit hour.
