In the spring of 2005, a committee comprised of students and professional staff developed Recreation’s first set of Student Learning Outcomes. The initial set of measures included 11 student learning outcomes utilizing 24 different rubrics. After a couple of semesters of data collection, program administrators decided to focus on fewer SLOs and more closely examine the impact of student learning as a consequence of engagement among the 160 student employees. Recreation needed to be transparent about what was to be assessed and innovative in the way assessments were administered. The following measures were developed in conjunction with the Culture of Learning Initiative implementation in 2007.
