Students who are employed with Recreation and Sports Services will learn interpersonal communication skills as demonstrated by the Queendom.com communications test. A student will score a 70 percent or higher on the test. We expect 80% of student employees to meet these criteria.
Previous assessment using the Student Rubric Measure and Supervisor Rubric Measure indicated communication as a point for improvement. This is especially significant since communication in the form of customer service is a primary job responsibility for most of our student employees.
Student employees will be complete an online survey at queendom.com assessing interpersonal communications skills.
Take the Communication Measure.
This measure is implemented at the end of each semester, asking student employees to complete the test, print the results page, and return to their supervisor.
Several all-staff training sessions have been implemented to improve communication in the workplace. We have also developed a committee of graduate students, undergraduates, and an advisor dedicated to increasing good communication within and between all of the program areas in Recreation and Sports Services.
This fall 87% of student employees scored at least a 70% on the communication test.
From fall 2009 to spring 2009 we increased our group goal based up on the
data collected and our action plan for improvement. The group goal was increased
from 80% above 70 to 90% above 70. We are excited to have met this goal.
Our action plan to maintain this goal is to do targeted training sessions
based solely on material covered on the test. We will also provide each program
supervisor with a list of individuals that needs personalized training and
feedback in the area of communication.
