Thank you for visiting our program website, and for your interest in our program. If you would like a career as a psychotherapist or mental health counselor working in community-based settings such as schools or clinics, in state or federal agencies, or in private practice, our training program in counseling can help you reach your goals. We offer a comfortable academic environment with ready access to faculty expertise and support, and small classes that facilitate a high degree of peer and faculty interaction. Our training program is built upon core psychology courses that emphasize critical thinking and sound science, as well as clinical application courses and well-supervised internships.
We offer 2 options within the counseling program, one which combines clinical training with an intensive research experience (thesis) in preparation for entrance into a doctoral program, and the second which is ideally suited to prepare students for state licensure as a mental health counselor on the Master's level. Links for both options appear below.

“Attending UWF's Master's program in Counseling Psychology proved to be a very positive experience for me due to friendly and readily available faculty/staff, challenging coursework, and valuable research/practical opportunities. As I approached graduation, I felt well prepared to pursue a counseling career armed with a firm foundation in counseling principles and several resume boosting practical experiences."
