Instructions for Joining

To be eligible for student membership in SHRM, you must be a currently registered student at UWF. We ask that you complete the membership application forms for both the national and Greater Pensacola SHRM (GPSHRM) chapters.

You can access the national student membership application form from the National SHRM website (www.shrm.org) or by clicking on the following link:

  Download the Student Membership Application (Adobe Acrobat .pdf format). 

To complete your national application, you will need the following documentation:

• The student application form for the National Chapter signed by the SHRM chapter advisor, Dr. Schneider, containing the UWF chapter number, 5180.
• A copy of your current course schedule to verify your student status.
• A check payable to SHRM for $35, or credit card information.

Membership application forms for the local Greater Pensacola SHRM (GPSHRM) chapter may be downloaded from www.gpshrm.org/join.htm.

On your application for GPSHRM, mention that you have applied for national SHRM membership and that you are a member of the UWF student chapter. GPSHRM will waive your dues for your first year of membership.

Copies of these forms for these chapters may also be obtained from the Psychology Main Office, 2nd floor, Building 41/250, the UWF SHRM chapter advisor, Dr. Sherry Schneider, Building 41/217, or from the Vice President of Membership, Winifred Bourne, web8@students.uwf.edu.  After the SHRM chapter advisor, Dr. Schneider signs the national student membership application form, kindly provide the Vice President of Membership with copies of the membership application forms. These forms may be dropped off in the Psychology Main Office, 2nd floor, Building 41/250, for the attention of Winifred Bourne.

To encourage national and local membership, you will automatically become a UWF student member when we receive copies of your national and GPSHRM applications.  We have also waived the student chapter fee of $10 for academic year 2004-2005. Information for New SHRM Members

Who said there was no such thing as a free lunch?

We believe that joining SHRM supplements our education at UWF.  Our student chapter is affiliated with the Greater Pensacola Society for Human Resource Management (GPSHRM). This affiliation provides us with the opportunity to meet and discuss issues with a group of about 200 enthusiastic local HR professionals. GPSHRM has lunch meetings at the New World Landing restaurant in downtown Pensacola on the second Wednesday of every month.  Student members who sign up in advance are invited to attend the monthly luncheon meetings as a guest of a local HR professional. Student membership is great value for the money.  It includes:

• Free meals at the monthly local GPSHRM chapter meetings with great professional speakers (paid for by a GPSHRM sponsor who you sit with at lunch).
• Networking with local and national HR professionals
• Access to local and national HR job announcements.
• Opportunities for practicums, internships, or part-time employment.
• Twelve monthly issues of HRMagazine, features in-depth articles on human resource management.
• Monthly online newspaper HRNews, featuring the latest trends and issues in the field, as well as legal updates.
• Quarterly issues of the online student newsletter Echoes, featuring chapter news and job search hints.
• Attending conferences held around the country sponsored by local SHRM chapters.
• Eligibility for scholarships.
