B.A., University of West Florida

As an undergraduate at UWF, I became extremely familiar with all the benefits and services this university has to offer. Since becoming a graduate student here I’ve had the pleasure of being able to give back to UWF by being offered an Academic Peer Counseling position. I am on the Licensure Mental Health Counseling track and my graduate position only furthers what I am learning in the classroom. The experiences I have had with undergraduates so far has been a great learning tool and only motivates me more to exceed what is expected of me by staff and faculty. My relationship with students may only extend to the academic realm but it really feels as though I am making a difference for students by helping them during their time at UWF. It is also gratifying for me to know that I may be influencing undergraduates to make that decision to continue their education after their bachelor’s (and hopefully stick around UWF a little while longer!). Besides working with students, I really enjoy working with the staff and the faculty in the Psychology department. These relationships really are mentor based and everyone works together to accomplish any goals we set for the department. All of the professors bring a different style of learning and passion to the learning experience, and I have only benefited from this diverse faculty. But more than anything, this graduate program has great graduate students from a variety of different backgrounds and research interests that really make us a diverse group. To be honest, it sometimes feels like a second family because we hang out outside of the classroom too, even if it is to study most of the time. UWF is a great university but the Psychology Graduate Program strives to be better than expected!
