B.A., Spelman College

I have had many opportunities to further my personal and professional development as a psychology graduate student. I had the privilege to serve as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Dr. Doug Friedrich for three semesters and assisted an undergraduate and upper division course. My duties included maintaining student grades and attendance, holding office hours, assisting with power points, and coordinating a student intervention program. I received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award which included a monetary reward for my work as an assistant. I have also been a member of two faculty search committees for a visiting and assistant professorship. I was most fortunate to receive the Graduate Student Scholarly and Creative Activity Grant in support of my thesis research exploring a breathing relaxation treatment for hypertension in African Americans under the supervision of Dr. Frank Andrasik. As a psychology graduate student, I have benefited greatly from these opportunities and had an overall positive experience in the department.
