UWF - Department of Psychology - Psychology Graduate Admissions

To apply to the Master of Arts Psychology program, please complete the following steps:

Deadline of Submission

Our deadline for receipt of completed applications (all materials) is February 1st for admission during the following Summer or Fall semesters.

University Application
GRE scores from General (Math and Verbal) Exam taken within the last 5 years
Two original transcripts for all undergraduate work

Submit your Letter of Intent online or submit by email attachment to psych@uwf.edu
- This is typically a one to three page letter which indicates your reasons and goals for pursuing a master’s degree at the University of West Florida.
Three Letters of Recommendation (with at least one from a college instructor)

Counseling Applicants

For Counseling program applicants that have provided completed applications, we require an interview. Interviews will be held on the afternoons of Friday February 6th and Friday February 13th in the Psychology Building (41) on the UWF campus. This offers the opportunity for us to meet applicants, and provides applicants a better perspective on the faculty, facilities, and local resources. If geographic distance is an obstacle, we can arrange for a phone interview, but you are strongly encouraged attend. Please let our office administrator, Diana Robinson, know which date you prefer.

Minimum Academic Criteria

The following are the minimum admission requirements:

A baccalaureate degree in psychology, or a baccalaureate degree in some other area and completion of at least General Psychology (i.e.: PSY 2013), Experimental Psychology and Lab (i.e.: EXP 3082 and EXP 3082L), 3 semester hours of Statistics (i.e.: STA 3023) and a psychology course in the area of intended master’s emphasis (e.g., Abnormal Psychology or Theories of Personality if applying to the counseling program). A course in Learning (e.g., EXP 4404) or Memory and Cognition is also strongly recommended.
A grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 semester hours of course work attempted in earning the bachelor degree, or a total quantitative + verbal GRE score of 1000 or higher.
Information about the location of the nearest test center and scheduling appointments for GRE can be obtained from the Sylvan National Registration Center (800/967-1100). Additional information regarding the GRE can be obtained by visiting the GRE website at http://www.gre.org.
