Q: Who is my advisor?
A: Once an advisor has been assigned to you, you will receive a letter in the mail that will provide you with your advisor’s contact information. If you no longer have that letter, you can call the Psychology Department at 474-2363 and we’ll be able to provide you with your advisor information.
Q: Who can I talk to about planning my curriculum /general class related questions?
A: Our Academic Peer Counselors will be happy to assist you. You can reach them at 474-2356 or PsychAPC@uwf.edu.
Q: How do I read my SASS audit?
A: In order to understand which requirements have been met and which are yet to be met, pay attention to the red and green markings. A green marking indicates that the requirement(s) for that category has been met (“OK” on the left) or will be met once the term is complete (“IP” on the left). The red markings (“NO” on the left) indicate the requirements that still need to be met.
Within each category, a plus (“+”) sign on the left of a requirement indicates that the requirement has been met. A minus (“-”) sign indicates that the requirement has yet to be met. When deciding to choose courses, choose ones that will satisfy the latter requirements. Once a passing grade is provided for a required course, the status will change from minus to plus.
Q: Where can I find my GPA?
A: Section four in your SASS audit indicates your Psychology GPA, while section five indicates your overall UWF GPA.
Q: How do I apply to the graduate program?
A: All the information that you’ll need for the Psychology Department application can be found on the following website: http://www.uwf.edu/psychology/grad-admissions/. Be sure to complete both the university application and the departmental application. If you have any questions, you can contact the Psychology Department at 474-2363.
Q: What is the deadline for Spring application?
A: The Psychology Department only accepts students in Summer and Fall terms. Both term applications are due by February 1st of the respective year.
Q: What can I do in my Argus account?
A: You may check on your current registration by using the ARGUS system. For example, your class schedule, exam times, previous grades, SASS audit and GPA can be reviewed here. You can also check your e-mail and update your directory information.
Q: What kind of financial aid is available for Psychology students?
A: All students interested in any type of financial aid should apply through the Office of Student Financial Assistance (Building 21, Room 120, [850] 474-2400). This includes applications for scholarships, fellowships, assistantships, non-Florida tuition waivers, and loans. This information must be updated each spring; that is, you must apply or re-apply each spring for any type of award. Minority students are especially encouraged to apply for any minority scholarships for which they are eligible, as well as the awards outlined below.
Graduate students may be eligible for additional financial aid, therefore check with the Psychology Department office to see what is available.
Q: When can I graduate?
A: Graduation is dependent on the completion of your degree requirements. Simply put, you are eligible to graduate when you no longer have any red markings on your SASS audit (with the exception of optional degree requirements) AND have “OK” indicated on the left of each green marking. If your SASS audit has all green markings, but has “IP” indicated on the left, then you can graduate once you have grades for the courses that are currently in progress.
Remember to submit your Application for Graduation one semester BEFORE you plan on graduating.
Q: What kind of student organizations are available for Psychology Students?
A: Currently the Student Psychology Association, Society for Human Resource Management and Psi Chi organizations are available. You can find more information about these organizations on the Organization section of the Psychology website.
Q: How do I find a Psychology course syllabus online?
A: In your ARGUS account, select the “My Info” green tab. Once there, select “Course Search” in the “Personal Student Records Access” section on the bottom left corner of the screen. This will bring up a pop-up window. In this window, enter course information (Course prefix/number, Instructor’s last name, Title, or Course reference number) at the top, then select a semester and click on the “search” button. If the course is available, it will be listed at the bottom. Click on the course title and this will provide you with information about that course. If a syllabus is available, an “S” will be indicated on the left column under “TechCd.” Click on the “S” to view syllabus.
