Dear Colleague:
Spring is here, and that means it's time for the Ninth Annual Festival on the Green. This two-day, entertaining outdoor event is scheduled for April 3 and 4 and will welcome the Northwest Florida and South Alabama communities to our main campus. Last year, the festival attracted more than 25,000 attendees.
Staff members who volunteer or attend Friday's events, as work schedules permit, are not required to use leave. Also, please note that there will be open parking during Festival on the Green. I encourage you to join me at the festival to celebrate spring as a time for rejuvenation and renewal.
The festival will include a crafts fair, a dog sports and fly ball exhibition, fine arts show displaying regional works, diversity showcase, library book sale, UWF Honors Convocation and a children's festival. Events also include an alumni jazz brunch and awards celebration, Time Portal to the Past, new acts on the three musical stages, new festival food and a classic car show. Off the Green events also include Jazz Fest, RadioLive and the UWF Department of Theatre's production of "Into the Woods."
Additionally, the Kathleen T. and Philip B. Phillips, M.D. Jazz Piano Competition, a nationally recognized jazz performance competition sponsored by UWF, will return this year as one of the festival's main events. The final round of the competition will be held as a free public performance April 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Saenger Theatre located in downtown Pensacola.
The success of Festival on the Green is dependent upon the collaborative efforts of students, faculty, staff, alumni and community volunteers. It is a monumental undertaking that gets better every year.
