Lesson Plan: Consulting Project for Distance Education
Each student group will be responsible for designing and
developing a one hour distance education lesson plan using
two-way video/audio distance learning classrooms. Student teams
will work with a College of Education faculty member on the
following tasks:
1. LESSON DEVELOPMENT
(a) Instructor Guide
(b) Student Guide
(c) PowerPoint presentation
(d) Other materials or manipulatives required
Instructor Guide:
I. How to Teach at a Distance (include tips and a description of the equipment that will be used in the lesson itself.)
II. How to Learn at a Distance (can be a duplicate of the information in the Student Guide)
III. Goals and Objectives of the Lesson
IV. Teaching Outline
- Key timeframes for each segment of the lesson
Use the Events of Instruction and the Framework for Distance Teaching as your guide to: (a) introduce the lesson; (b) conduct the body of the lesson; and (c) conclude the lesson. You should create some kind of assessment either a short set of questions or some other short 5 minutes or less approach to determine if the lesson worked as intended.
- Indicate when instructor should use each type of equipment/or progress through the PowerPoint presentation
- Provide detail for activities that should be conducted (remember, include a copy of the activity in the instructor packet)
Student Guide
I. How to Learn at a Distance
II. Guided Notetaking Sheet(s)
III. Description of Activities
IV. Test
V. Attitude Survey
Expectations: Meet with the faculty member at least twice. At the first meeting, the faculty member will provide content-related materials to you. This may include handouts from previous semesters, a chapter from the text, etc. At the second meeting, provide the faculty member with an opportunity to review the materials that you have created and make changes prior to the day the faculty member plans to use it in his/her class.
2. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
(a) Train faculty member on how to teach at a distance (eg., where to stand, where to look, etc. A great deal of this information can be placed in the Instructor Guide)
(b) Assist the faculty member in any way possible.
3. CLASS PRESENTATION
During the eighth class session, you will be asked to present an overview of what you did with the lesson. Be sure to overview the lesson in terms of specific activities, interactions, and discuss any technical issues that may have arisen. Total presentation time: 10 minutes.
Enjoy! This should be fun.
