Western Panhandle Early Steps
Infants and toddlers from birth to thirty- six months of age who have significant developmental delays or an established condition that may result in developmental delay may be eligible for early intervention services.
Developmental Delay—Delay of 1.5 standard deviation or 25% in months in any one of the following areas of development:
- Cognition
-Communication
-Physical (Gross or Fine Motor)
-Social/Emotional
-Adaptive/Self Help
Established Condition: A diagnosed condition that may result in developmental delay. Types of established conditions include:
Written confirmation by a physician, psychologist for severe attachment disorders, or audiologist for hearing impairment is required.
The federal law requires that children who are identified as possibly eligible for Early Steps services are to be referred to the Local Early Steps within two (2) working days of identification. Early Steps has forty-five (45) days from the referral date to coordinate with the family, conduct the eligibility evaluation/assessment and complete the Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP).
