Week 15: April 22

Fire Drill
Schedule

THIS IS IT!  Your final week of firefighting at Firehouse 6287. This old fire chief is sure going to miss everyone but I suppose it is time to usher out you old folks and make way for a new batch of recruits.

Did you ever think you would survive?  You did!  You survived small house fires along with some blazing infernos during your stint here at the Station.  I hope you can all say that you are better firefighters from this experience.

You have all done a superb job firefighting.  All of you have earned your Fire Marshall Badge with varying levels of knowledge and skills.  You all came in with a variety of prior knowledge and some admitted to no knowledge related to IT.  You have all left with a great deal more than you came with (I hope) which is deserving of a badge

Below is a poem from one of our own firefighters that was submitted as part of the reflection paper a few semesters ago.  I would like to share it all with you.  Thanks to Mae Adkinson for all the creativity that went into it.

Said the Firehouse Chief to the Firehouse Crew
I have something to say to you
To be a distance learner
You have to put some things on the back burner
Because for the next 16 weeks you're mine!

Chatting and emailing on your PC and MAC
Even get cookies if you have a snack attack
Networking with Peer2Peer and Net2Phone
You will feel like you're never alone!
Join that listserv and newsgroup, join AOL IM -

That's what it takes for a degree in IT
ISDN, HTML, DSL, ISP
And if video conferencing is what's to be
We can even CU-SeeMe!

Create a concept map with Inspiration
Your Web page will be your creation
Get Bobby approved, span the Digital Divide
Synchronous
or asynchronous - you decide!

Viruses
and firewalls will mess with your encryption
Oh, the fun you'll have is far beyond description
MPV, RTF, JPEG and GIF
All those formats will keep you in a tiff.

Your reflection paper will be the end
And the web page you must FTP to send.
If you survive all of this and more,
The Fire Marshall Badge will be your reward!

I have truly enjoyed our adventures each week.  You have kept me on my toes and I have learned a few things along the way myself.

I guess it is time to say goodbye to you all. I have truly had a fun and interesting semester with you. I am not sure whether to be happy or sad. I think everyone is happy, happy, happy to be finished with this course (I would be too if I were you). I do hope I will see you again in other courses. I hope that if you find you need my assistance at anytime in the coming semesters that you will email, call, or come by and see me.

Thanks for a great semester! Good luck in your future courses! Please let me know if I can be of help in any way.

You should have received an email providing you instructions on how to complete a course evaluation form online for this course.
