Frequently Asked Questions

(FAQ)

General

  • Why do I need to include the course name and/or number on email messages that I send to Dr. Curda?
Dr. Curda teaches several classes and Melissa is the GA for several classes. If you do not identify the course that your message is related to, it will delay your reply if we have to review numerous course rosters to determine which course you might be referring to.

Due Dates

  • What are the due dates for the assignments?
    Refer to the course schedule.

Late Assignments

  • Can I make up late assignments?
Yes, you can make up late assignments (and receive partial credit for them) as long as you submit them within 10 days of the original due date (per the late policy explained in the syllabus and the week 2 lesson).

Listserv

  • I sent a message to the listserv, but I didn't receive a copy. Why didn't I get a copy of the message?
By default, you will not receive a copy of messages that you send to the listserv. If you want to verify that your message was successfully delivered to the listserv, follow the corresponding instructions in the troubleshooting guide (55 KB DOC file or 1.4 MB RTF file).
  • Do I have to use my UWF email address to sign up for the listserv?
No. You can use any email address that you regularly check for the listserv. However, once you sign up for the listserv using a particular email account, that address is the only one that you can use to send messages to the listserv. Refer to the listserv help sheet.

Prior Weeks

  • Why can't I access the lessons for prior weeks?
You can. As stated in page 1 of the week 1 lesson, the events calendar provides links to prior, current, and future lessons.

Quizzes

  • Where are the answers to the questions on the quiz?
The answers for the items on the quizzes are not made available until after the quiz period is over after Dr. Curda has reviewed the quizzes. Once the answers have been released, you can access them from the quiz in eLearning. [Refer to the quiz help sheets and page 1 of the week 3 lesson.]
  • Why is my score on the quiz so low?
If the quiz contains open-ended items such as fill-in-the blank and short-answer items, they must be manually graded. Only close-ended items (such as multiple-choice and multiple-select items) are graded automatically when you submit the quiz. [Refer to the quiz help sheets and page 1 of the week 3 lesson.]
  • I missed an item on a quiz because I misspelled a word. Can I get credit for it?
If the only reason that you missed a fill-in-the-blank item was because you misspelled a word, you will receive credit for the item when Dr. Curda grades the quiz. [Refer to the quiz help sheet.]
  • I took a quiz, but my there is no grade in the gradebook and the item was marked with an O in the checklist. Why didn't I get credit for the quiz?
Each quiz is date- and time-restricted. If you submit a quiz after the due date/time or after the allotted time period, you will receive a zero as your score on the quiz. [Refer to the quiz help sheet.]

Weekly Checklists

  • Why don't you update the weekly checklists more often than once a week?
The checklists are provided as a means for making sure that you get credit for completing the assignments. The purpose of the checklists is not to provide you with a real-time list of things that are due in the current week. [Refer to the syllabus and page 1 of the week 2 lesson.]
  • I completed an assignment late, but there's still an O on the checklist. Why hasn't the O been changed?
Each weekly checklist is updated once for the corresponding week. We do not review prior checklists unless a student notifies us that he or she has completed an assignment from a prior week. If you submit an assignment after the corresponding checklist has been updated, you must let Melissa know in order to make sure the checklist gets updated. (Keep in mind that you will not receive credit for assignments completed more than 10 days after the due date.) [Refer to the syllabus and page 1 of the week 2 lesson.]
  • I submitted 3 replies to the threaded discussion, but I still got an O. Why did I get an O?
The requirements for participating in the threaded discussions are to submit at least 3 replies to original posts and to reply to responses to your posts. A reply to someone else's reply does not count as a reply to an original post. Also, if you submit the required replies more than 10 days after the due date, you will not receive credit for the replies. [Refer to the syllabus and page 1 of the week 2 lesson.]

Student Work

  • Why isn't the link to my network diagram, powerpoint presentation, research table, or portfolio website posted on the corresponding page that links to each student's work?
Melissa updates the pages that contains links to each student's work. If you do not send her your URL (as specified in the assignment), your work will not be linked on the student work page(s).
  • Is there a frequently-asked questions page about the website project?
Yes. There is a separate FAQ page for the website (portfolio) project.
