Week 10: October 31
This Week's
Agenda

Director's Notes

Welcome to your tenth week as an intern at the Institute.

I have received lots of great concept maps this week. All concept maps will be posted on this list for everyone's viewing pleasure. Lots of creativity! As I receive more today I will try to get them posted as soon as possible. I will try to send out grades on those sometime this week.

This week we have only one chapter for our readings in order to use some of your time to collect your final data on your ABA Project and begin working on the final report and also to begin your Motivation Case Study Project. Your ABA Project is due in two weeks while you have an additional week for your Motivation Case Study. This week begins our final set of readings on the topic of motivation and related constructs.

Given you only have one chapter this week I have decided to create an extra credit quiz for anyone interested in earning a little extra credit. The quiz is on APA. It is posted this week but you will have access to it for 2 weeks so anyone that wants the opportunity can avail themselves of it.

Our objectives this week are to:

  1. Identify examples of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation.
  2. Identify examples of situated motivation and incentive motivation.
  3. Identify characteristics of contemporary motivation theory.
  4. Identify appropriate practices to enhance motivation in the classroom.
  5. Identify statements consistent with Hull's notion of how both habit and drive affect performance.
  6. Identify descriptions of individual's focused on the need for arousal, relatedness, affiliation, approval, and/or achievement.
  7. Recognize statements and classroom practices consistent with Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
  8. Recognize descriptions of individuals displaying characteristics consistent with self-worth theory and self-handicapping.
  9. Recognize examples consistent with trait theories of motivation.
  10. Identify whether individuals have high or low motives for success and motives to avoid failure.
  11. Identify descriptions of hot cognition, mood-dependent memory, and cognitive dissonance.
  12. Recognize examples of individuals with trait, facilitating, and state anxiety.
  13. Recognize characteristics of individuals with test anxiety and highly anxious learners.
