The P3 Competition was a writing competition for graduate students, providing an opportunity to get some realistic hands-on experience in the world of an academic leader! Through a QEP grant awarded to Dr. Thompson, cash prizes were offered for the three best entries in each of three categories: Presenting, Procuring, and Publishing. The contest was a simulation of these events—entrants did not have to actually present at a conference, procure a grant, or publish an article in a scholarly journal. Submissions were sent to Dr. Thompson, who turned 'blind' copies over to a review committee of published scholars for review.
After all the hard work and a month of anxious waiting, the big day arrived for the presentation of the awards! Dr. Podemski, Associate Vice President for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies, presented certificates and cash prizes to the winners at the October Doctoral Research and Rigor (R&R) Seminar at the CORAL Center. The R&R Seminars are conducted monthly throughout the regular school year and are free to all UWF doctoral students and alumni. Prizes were awarded in two of the three categories: Publishing and Procuring. There were no entries in the Presentation category.
