UWF Celebrates Community Partnerships
As Northwest Floridas only state-funded public university,
the University of West Florida is committed to the region it serves
and to providing opportunity and access to higher education for anyone
working toward a better future. Dedicated to community engagement, UWF
is working in partnership with others to realize a better tomorrow for
the region. By collaborating with local hospitals, business firms, arts
venues, military bases, non-profit organizations, technology corporations
and more, UWF is developing a strong network of regional partners dedicated

and Education Facility Helps Meet Military Needs
Recently named one of the country's top military-friendly schools
by Military Advanced Education magazine, the University of West
Florida offers innovative educational opportunities to help meet the military's
needs. In addition to the UWF Emerald Coast Campus centers at Eglin Air
Force Base and Hurlburt Field, UWF engineering students also have the
opportunity to utilize the University of Florida Research Engineering
and Education Facility (REEF), located adjacent to Eglin in Shalimar.

MBA Alumna Putting Degree to Work
The University of West Florida Master of Business Administration Program is a top-notch program accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Only 15 percent of programs around the world have earned this symbol of the highest standard in management education. Because UWF's academic excellence is exceptionally high, MBA graduates have a great opportunity to launch successful careers after completing the program. Walaipan Thomas, associate manager of American General Life and Accident Insurance Company, is among the numerous alumni who have built a successful career after graduating from the UWF MBA program. UWF Public History Students Blaze an Old Trail
Following in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark, 17 University of West Florida students departed July 6 for a 4,745 mile journey across the western United States as part of a new Public History Travel Course - "Corps of Discovery 2: Exploring the West of Lewis and Clark." This new adventure created by renowned University of West Florida Public History Professor Patrick Moore will take students through 15 states and 22 cities. Link: UWF

Funds Study Abroad Dreams for Students
Due to the generous support of friends and alumni of the
University of West Florida, the UWF Foundation was able to award $25,000
in study abroad scholarships to deserving students for fall 2008 and
spring 2009. Rebecca Sullivan, a UWF junior majoring in Elementary Education
with a minor in Spanish, is one of 11 students who received a scholarship,
which allowed her to study Spanish at the University of Costa Rica for
six weeks from April to June of this year.
