About the Health Care Administration Specialization

The MSA with specialization in Health Care Administration is an interdisciplinary degree offered entirely online and designed to prepare students for leadership roles in public, nonprofit and private organizations in the field of health care administration.

The inclusion of public administration faculty along with the existing health education faculty in the MSA Online Program facilitates a movement toward the regional and global presentation of a program focused upon preparation of students for administrative management positions within public and private health care agencies, clinics, and hospitals. It offers working professionals the opportunity to enhance administrative skills to manage healthcare personnel, programs, organizations.

Coursework prepares students build managerial and critical thinking skills useful in careers as health care administrators. For example, the program integrates social marketing theory and practice, and was designed to provide an understanding of federal and not-for-profit structures and processes as well as the political/economic/ organizational environment in which the health care administrator works. In addition, coursework also prepares students for admission to doctoral programs and professional schools.

Student Learning Outcomes

• Identify and apply health education, health promotion, and healthcare
  administration concepts, principles, and theories
• Design, develop, implement, administer/manage, and evaluate a social marketing plan to ameliorate a community health problem.
• Generate administrative and other strategies to improve health and healthcare that address diverse sociocultural, political, ethnic, and geographic perspectives.
• Exhibit effective interpersonal communication both orally and in writing, to include the use of email and other technology.
• Recognize ethical problems related to healthcare administration and practice appropriate ethical judgment.
• Collaborate effectively with those in community health care systems, local media, health team members, and community agencies.
• Apply training methodologies and techniques for dealing with healthcare employee discipline and employee grievances.
• Engage in human resource planning, recruiting and testing and in the
  selection of new healthcare employees, their classification and compensation.

Admissions Requirements

The Health Care Administration Specialization requirements:

• GRE score prior to admission
• A letter of intent
• Three letters of professional reference
