It is the goal of the Marine Ecology Research Society (MERS) to encourage undergraduates to gain much needed experience in the various fields of marine science, in order to better prepare them for their future. Much of the ongoing research in the Biology Department is facilitated by undergraduate hands, and that not only helps the scientists, it helps the undergraduates. Getting this hands-on research experience is one of the many opportunities we offer to our members.
While this organization is run by the graduate students within the Biology Department, our programs are highly malleable by the undergraduate members, and we actively encourage their participation in making MERS even better. We currently have three officer positions that are always filled by undergraduate members, each with their unique and important roles in making sure we're on track. But you don't have to be an officer to make things happen. We are very open to new ideas, and our members are allowed to sit in on officers meetings to learn firsthand what's happening in MERS, and to voice opinions and suggestions.
Feel free to navigate around our site to learn more about what we do; not only within the Biology Department, but throughout the University and Pensacola Community!
