MR. WILLIAM REYNOLDS, COMMAND INFORMATION OFFICER, NETPDTC, PENSACOLA MAKES PRESENTATION TO MIS MAJORS

On November 2, 2010, Mr. William Reynolds, Command Information Officer, Naval Education and Training Professional Development and Technology Center [NETPDTC], visited the UWF campus and made a presentation to the student chapter of the Association for Information Systems, the student organization for MIS majors. Mr. Reynolds completed his undergraduate degree in Systems Engineering with work towards an MBA from Florida State University. He is a graduate of the Gartner CIO Academy. He is a strong supporter of the UWF Cooperative Education (CoOp) program and uses it regularly to develop students as a key component of his recruitment planning.

The presentation was titled "What Business/Navy is looking for in Information Management and Information Technology IM/IT Employees" and was attended by MIS majors and other College of Business majors. Students were happy to learn that NETPDTC, as an organization, is moving from a pure IT focus to a business focus. The new focus is going to be on providing innovation/value to the organization through technology. They heard about the importance of business process management for creating mission agility for the Navy. He provided several career related tips for students desiring to build careers in the fields of Information Management/Information Technology. In brief, employees desiring a career in these fields must understand business, develop soft skills, and be entrepreneurial in creating value for the business.
