Glossy Chocolate Frosting

3 tablespoon shortening
3 squares (1 oz ea) unsweetened chocolate
2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Heat shortening and chocolate in top of double boiler over low heat until melted. Stir in remaining ingredients; beat until smooth. Place pan of frosting in bowl of ice and water; continue beating until frosting is smooth and of spreading consistency. Stir in 1/2 cup of finely chopped nuts if desired.

Frosts 2 8 x 8 inch layers or a 13 x 9 inch cake
