Miners Meat Pasties

3 cups flour
1 pinch salt
1/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup water
1 lb ground chuck
3 cups potatoes; finely chopped
1/2 cup carrot; finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pinch pepper
1 tablespoon butter or margarine

To make crust, cut shortening into flour and salt. Gradually mix in water to form a ball. Divide dough into 6 equal parts and roll each into an 8" circle. Set aside. To make filling, mix all ingredients well. (Meat is NOT cooked) Place about 1 cup filling on half of each crusts. Fold the circle in half and seal edges. Place on a baking sheet and bake at 475°F for 20 minutes; reduce heat to 375°F and bake another 30 minutes.
