The applied research project is a capstone course that gives students the opportunity to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in the MSA curriculum to an organizational or policy related problem. Students are expected to produce a paper showing evidence that they have mastered the learning outcomes. Before enrolling, the student should have completed at least 27-30 hours of MSA coursework including CCJ 6704 (CJ Research Methods and Data Analysis). Permission is required.
The applied research project focuses on five main areas: project introduction and statement of problem, literature review, methodology, expected findings and policy implications. The grading rubric for each of the five areas is shown below along with samples of previous papers that have been submitted thus far. These papers are for reference only.
