The State of Florida and the University of West Florida require that all international students obtain and maintain adequate health and accident insurance before registering at the University of West Florida. There are no exceptions. These insurance requirements are listed on the International Student Health Insurance Compliance Form and are part of University policy. If you buy health insurance before you arrive, you must have the insurance company fill out this form and fax it to the Director of the International Student Office at (850) 474-2915.
Health insurance is required for all international students (F and J)! Notes outlining the insurance policy can be found here.
You should also bring the completed and signed form with you for Immigration and Insurance Check-In. (If the health insurance from your country does not meet all the Florida state requirements, you may have to purchase additional insurance coverage here.) If you choose to buy health insurance from the approved UWF insurance company after you arrive, it will meet the Florida state requirements and will cost you approximately $1256 per 12-month period. All international students must pay their health insurance for the full academic year. No exceptions. We will document that you have the appropriate amount of insurance coverage (i.e. for the entire academic year) when you come to the International Center to check-in. We also recommend that you purchase Travel Insurance while you are in transit from your country to the U.S. and for your first few days after arrival.
NOTE: You must submit payment (U.S. bank check, money order, or credit card) directly to UnitedHealthcare and be prepared to pay for health insurance for the full academic year.
