- Students must be in good standing at the University at the time of application (not on academic or social probation).
- Students must have a cumulative UWF GPA of at least 2.5 at the time of applying for an exchange program. Students who do not meet this requirement will be placed on the waiting list. Students with the required GPA will receive priority. Students with a lower overall GPA, but with good academic performance the preceding two semesters may petition to participate in an exchange program. Some programs may have higher GPA requirements established by the host institution.
- Transfer students with a minimum of 24 transfer credit hours may apply for participation in a UWF exchange program. The 2.5-GPA requirement will be based on the student’s transfer GPA.
- Freshman students must have completed a minimum of 24 UWF credit hours to be able to participate in an exchange program. Students applying for study abroad one year in advance of completing the required number of credit hours may do so by submitting all required documents and a letter requesting special consideration of their application.
- Students must complete the UWF Exchange Program Application Form and provide a statement explaining why he/she wants to study abroad.
- Students must also complete the “International Exchange Participation Request” form required by Registrar’s Office. This form must also be signed by the student’s advisor. Students are not eligible for exchange unless the academic advisor or the major department chairperson approves the exchange.
- Students must complete all forms required by the host institution and submit them by the required deadlines.
- Students must show proof of health/accident insurance coverage, which includes emergency medical evacuation and repatriation. Students are able to purchase the International Student Identity Card, which provides basic insurance coverage for study abroad. It is recommended that students have additional insurance coverage either through a currently held policy or one purchased especially for study abroad.
* The number of places available for exchange may be limited by the host institution. If places are limited, priority will go to those eligible students who complete the application process earliest.
* Final acceptance is determined by the host institution. Not all departments at host institutions are able to accept exchange students.
