Honors students have traveled half the globe while pursuing academic credit. There are a number of ways in which a student can travel, and a far more vast selection of places to visit. In the past, most students have traveled with our regular summer international experience, which is typically connected to an Honors Seminar. For example, last summer a group of honors students traveled to Florence, Italy and beyond for our seminar on Dante's Inferno. They even had weekends free for short excursion trips.
In Summer 2008, Honors gave several students the opportunity to travel to Panama to learn about environmental studies in a tropical ecosystem.
There are other ways to travel, however, and we encourage our students to apply for support from the program. Former Honors student Christina Gillar traveled to Indonesia to work on her thesis research dealing with mudskippers. In Summer 2008, Christine Thomas traveled to Glasgow, Scotland with Dr. Jane Halonen to conduct hands-on research for her thesis. In Spring 2008, two of our Honors Council students studied abroad in Europe. Sarah Everhart traveled to Wales to study and experience the world, while Jennie Gulley spent time in England working on her International Studies concentration.
