On Friday, May 2, several students were recognized for their achievements during the 2007/2008 school year at the annual Honors Graduation ceremony. Congratulations to all those who presented at conferences this year, who helped to make the Honors Council and Program a huge success, and especially to those special few who have completed all Honors requirements and are now Honors Alumni! We are very proud of all of our Honors graduates, and we wish you nothing but success and happiness in the future.
On Saturday, April 19, we hosted the 2008 Honors Formal at the BCM Building on campus! The turn-out was great, the food was yummy, and everyone looked fabulous. Congratulations to Bryant Chase, Christine Thomas, and Charity Vander Wall on becoming the King and Queens of Honors Formal!
The 2008 Honors Symposium was a great success! On Friday, April 18, several Honors students presented their Honors thesis to interested faculty, staff, and students. Symposium Program (pdf)
On Sunday, April 13, at the Student Leadership Awards Banquet, Honors Council was named Student Service Organization of the Year! Thanks to our efforts involving community service, organization fundraising, and campus involvement, the leaders of the Honors Program were recognized as some of the "brightest students on campus," and worthy of this distinguishing award.
From Friday, April 11 until the wee hours of the morning on Saturday, April 12, several Honors students helped to coordinate Relay for Life, an annual event hosted by the American Cancer Society in order to raise funding and awareness for cancer research and advocacy. The Honors Program was also represented at the event in the form of a Relay team, which recently raised hundreds of dollars in fundraising efforts such as grocery bagging, a car wash, and a penny war hosted in Pace Hall, the Honors residence hall.
Incoming Honors students will be attending Freshman Orientation weekends during the course of the summer. If you are one of these students, please make sure that you are registered with LightHouse, and we will see you soon!
