Course Objective
a. Familiarize the student with basic travel
and tourism definitions, principles, and
practices.
b. Develop an understanding of the historical
and philosophical foundations of travel
and tourism.
c. Identify sources of travel and tourism
data/research.
d. Identify and discuss present and future
trends in travel and tourism.
e. Discuss governmental involvement in the
tourism industry at local, state, and
federal levels.
f. Identify and discuss important issues
confronting travel and tourism at
national and international levels.
g. Discuss effective tourism planning and
management principals and practices.
h. Discuss the implications of travel and
tourism on future recreation and leisure
issues.

Reading assignments will be made from the
textbook and other appropriate sources during
the course.
Grading and Evaluation

(Note: Up to 10% extra credit for class participation)
Class Attendance:
Role will be taken during each class period.
More than 3 unexcused absences from class or
field experiences will result in a reduction
of final grade by one grade for each unex-
cused absence. It is the responsibility of
student athletes to supply a signed form from
your coach prior to absence from class or
field experience to be considered an excused
absence.
