Prospective athletic training
students must first be accepted to The University of West Florida (UWF) before
applying and receiving any Athletic Training application materials. Upon
verification of acceptance to UWF, the prospective athletic training student
can contact the Director of Athletic Training to obtain official application

Policies for Athletic Training Education Program Admission & Application
The following criteria will be used for formal admission into Athletic Training degree plan. All of the following must be completed before admission will be granted:
Must declare (or change) HLES/Athletic Training as academic major.
Obtain official application from Director of Athletic Training Education.
Must complete application and return to Director of Athletic Training Education (along with other supporting documents, by no later than August 1 of that year.
Must have completed PET 2604 and PET 2622 with a “B” or higher.
Must complete a Blood-Borne Pathogens Course and provide supporting documentation prior to beginning their observation hours..
Must complete 50 hours of observation in a sports medicine setting under the direct supervision of a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer before acceptance into program.
Must have 2.50 cumulative GPA after the end of the semester prior to admission.
Must have completed Anatomy & Physiology I (with lab) with a grade of “C” or higher.
Must have an interview with Director of Athletic Training and Head Athletic Trainer prior to admission into program.
Must show verification of current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification prior to admission.
Must take and have a negative TB Skin Test one month prior to acceptance into program.
Must start Hepatitis B vaccination shot series one month prior to acceptance into program, or read Hepatitis B Fact Sheet and have a signed waiver on file with Director of Athletic Training Education. (forms are sent to student after application is received)
Must pass a physical examination and be cleared of any communicable diseases prior to admission. Students failing the physical examination and not meeting the “Technical Standards of the Program” will not be allowed into the program.
In the event
of the potential program enrollment exceeding the CAATE recommended ratio
of students to ACI's, permission to enroll in the first Athletic Training
Clinical (PET 3670) will be based on the candidate's relative ranking
as determined by a review committee comprised of HLES faculty and the
Athletic Training Staff. Ranking of the application candidates, when necessary,
will be determined using the following criteria with the maximum point
value of each listed:
