Student Checklist for Transitioning to Google Apps
Note: If you need to reference your old ArgoMail account, you can view it until 12/15/2009 at http://argomail.uwf.edu.
Perform these steps on or after August 13, 2009
- Click here to bookmark the link to Google Apps for UWF Students
- If you have an email alias that you set in Argus on the My ArgoNet tab, you will continue to receive email at that alias email address in UWF Gmail. However, if you are using the alias as your "from" email address, you need to take an additional step. In the upper-right corner of UWF Gmail, click Settings, then the Accounts tab. Click Add another email address you own, then enter the alias email address that you set in Argus and follow the on-screen instructions (Note: the verification email will show up in your UWF Gmail). Once you have verified your account, go back to Settings and on the Accounts tab click the make default link beside the alias.
- If you use email rules, set them up in Gmail. In Gmail, rules are called filters. How do I do this?
- Identify ArgoMail email messages and attachments that exceed the 20 MB Gmail limit. Messages that exceed this size cannot be copied to Gmail. If you wish to keep them, you must save them elsewhere before 12/15/2009.
- Identify any ArgoMail folders that contain slashes in the folder name. These folders cannot be copied to Gmail. If you wish to keep their content, you must save them elsewhere before 12/15/2009.
- If you use a mobile phone or other handheld device to access your email and calendar, go to http://www.google.com/mobile/ and select your phone to see the Google services that work with your device.
- Your ArgoMail calendar, contacts, tasks, and journal items cannot be copied to Google Calendar. In order to keep a record of your past calendar events and other items, you can print them to paper or to a PDF file. Adobe Acrobat PDF software is available in campus computer labs, including the eDesktop Virtual Computer Lab (on the Software tab in Argus). If you do not take this step, on 12/15/2009 your old calendar and other items will be deleted and will no longer available to you.
- Future calendar events need to be re-setup in your Google Calendar. Go through your ArgoMail calendar and add all future meetings and appointments to your Google calendar. If you previously scheduled a future meeting with other people, you may want to re-propose the meeting from your Google calendar. How do I do this?
