Subject: Do you have too many windows open for Gmail and Google Calendar?

Use Tabs to Manage Gmail and Google Calendar

When you click on the Mail or Calendar links, Gmail opens a new window. If you're not careful, these windows can quickly multiply and before you know it, you have eight windows open for Google Apps. The best way to control this is to use the tabs in your web browser. With tabs, you have your mail and calendar open in a single window that you can refer to throughout the day. Instructions below.

Tabs in Internet Explorer

Tabs in Firefox (tabs open automatically in Firefox)

How to Use Tabs

Open UWF Gmail (gmail.uwf.edu) as usual - this puts Gmail in the first tab. Then, right click on the word Calendar and select Open in New Tab (or hold down CTRL and click Calendar) - this opens the Calendar in the second tab. Mail and calendar are now side-by-side at the top of your web browser. Use the tabs to switch back and forth between your email and calendar without opening a new window.

By the way, tabs aren't just for Gmail - they work with all websites. If there are other websites that you keep open all day, like Argus, you can open them in a new tab as well. This will reduce the clutter in your taskbar since all of the websites you use can be reduced to a single window.

No tab option in your web browser? Your web browser probably needs to be updated to a newer version. Contact the ITS Help Desk or your Local Support Provider for assistance.
