UWF Student Email Now in Google Apps

On August 13, UWF student email moved from ArgoMail to UWF Gmail. Students now receive email in their UWF Google Apps accounts at http://gmail.students.uwf.edu. Student email addresses, usernames, and passwords have not changed. UWF Information Technology Services (ITS) copied all student email messages from ArgoMail into UWF Gmail. If you have not received all of your mail, contact the ITS Help Desk. Only email can be copied to Google - the following items cannot be copied: Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Journal items, Email messages exceeding 20 MB, Email rules, Email folders with slashes in the folder name. Students who use any of these features and wish to retain their information, should follow the student checklist at http://uwf.edu/helpdesk/google.

ArgoNet Printing Services

Over the last 10 years, the university has systematically implemented a shared model where students receive some free paper. Once that balance is exhausted, students may purchase additional pages at a cost of $0.10 per page. UWF’s current model, which is similar to other university and college models, is to give newly admitted and enrolled students 100 free pages, to facilitate their initial interactions with the university in processes such as orientation and registration. When that balance has been used, students may purchase additional pages from the Cashier’s Office or online via Nautilus card or credit card. Visit the My ArgoNet tab in Argus for more information.

Did You Know?

Not only is your H: drive a convenient place to store documents, but it’s also incredibly safe. Your data is stored on servers in the university's data center which are backed up hourly. If for some reason an older file needs to be retrieved, enter “H:\~snapshot” in a windows address bar to see these backup versions of your H: drive going back days, weeks, and even months. It is also possible to have your “My Documents” folder redirect to your H: drive, so that your work is always protected and available, even if your computer is disabled.

Making the H: drive safe and secure requires storing many versions of your files at different times. This can dramatically increase the amount of space consumed! Since all UWF employees and students essentially share parts of the same storage system, care should be taken for what is stored on it. Make sure you use it for its intended purpose: to safeguard the documents and work you produce and use at UWF. Please do not use it for personal photos, music, or personal video files.

For more information about backing up your files using the H: drive, feel free to call or e-mail the ITS Help Desk.

Fraudulent Email Requesting Your Password

UWF students and employees have reported fraudulent emails requesting their University password. These emails may appear to come from "webmaster@uwf.edu" with a subject of "University of West Florida Email User." This is an attempt to steal your identity - do not respond. The number of email "phishing" attempts has increased significantly over the past year. Always be suspicious of these requests. Remember that no one at UWF, including the ITS Help Desk, should ever ask for your ArgoNet password. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the ITS Help Desk at (850) 474-2075 or helpdesk@uwf.edu.

Used toner cartridges should be packaged in the replacement's box and sent to the attention of Peter Robinson in Building 90. IT equipment (monitors, calculators, USB drives, etc.) should be processed through the university property surplus system to ensure that it is disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner. In addition, all departments are asked to designate a “dead battery” collection box that is periodically sent to Peter Robinson in Building 90 for proper disposal.
