Insert a Web link in a Word document

Follow the steps below to insert a web link in a Word 2007 document.

  1. Place your cursor in the location that you want the link to appear.

  2. On the Insert tab, click the Hyperlink icon .

  3. On the Insert Hyperlink window, make sure Existing File or Web Page is highlighted.

  4. In the Text to display box, type the words that you want to display as the clickable link in your document.

  5. Then, in the Address field, type the full address of the web page (starting with http://) that you want to display when the link is clicked.

IMPORTANT: If the address contains spaces (such as http://uwf.edu/my web link) then enclose the entire address in < > (example:  <http://uwf.edu/my web link>), this will ensure that the link works properly.

  6. Test the link to make sure it works by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on the link.

In the example below, the document will contain the words "UWF Home Page," which will go to http://uwf.edu when clicked.
