Allergy Shots
Q. Can my son or daughter bring the antigen to the clinic or does it have to be shipped to the clinic directly from the physician’s office?
A. Yes. Your son or daughter can bring in the antigen, but it must be accompanied by medical records.
Q. Can my son or daughter come in anytime to get his/her allergy shots?
A. No. The MD must be in clinic; students should call 474-2172 for the MD’s schedule. After the allergy shot is given, the student is required to wait in the clinic for 20 minutes for observation.
Q. Is there a cost for the allergy shots?
A. Yes, there is an injection fee.
Immunizations
Q. Our transcripts from high school show proof of immunizations. Do we still need to file vaccination documents with the health center?
A. Yes. The transcript sent to admissions will remain in admissions. You can send another copy to the health center and this will be kept as proof of vaccinations or you may submit the forms in person to the Student Health Center (Building 63).

Q. Can our family physician just send, email or fax proof of shots to the clinic?
A. Yes, however it must be a scanned copy of the vaccination record or on office letter head with clinic stamp. It cannot be an email from the physician’s personal email.
Q. For Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Gardisil how much time has to pass in between each injection?
A. Hepatitis A – it is 6 months between the two shots
Hepatitis B – at least 30 days between the first and second shot, and 6 months between the second and the last shot.
Gardisil – A series of 3 shots- 2 months between the first and second shot, and 4 months between the second and third shot.
Parent Notification of Illness
Q. If my son or daughter is sick can I get information about the illness?
A. Yes. All information about his/her illness is available to the parents with written consent from the student.
Q. If a student is severely ill or being sent to the hospital will I be notified?
A. Yes. The provider will tell the student they have determined the parents need to know of the condition and will call the parents.
Q. What does the student do if they become very sick at night or on weekends?
A. Have someone take them to Baptist Medical Park Walk-in Clinic located on University Parkway or to the West Florida Hospital Emergency Room located on Davis Highway. Each student should have their insurance card in case they have to receive medical care other than in the UWF Health Center.
Students with pre-existing condition
Q. Can my son or daughter who is diagnosed with a medical condition be followed by the providers in the UWF Health Center?
A. Yes. Bring all previous medical records to the clinic. Medications and treatments will be continued by UWF Health Center providers.
Q. Can students get an X-ray or EKG in the UWF Health Center?
A. No. We refer the student to Baptist Medical Park Walk-in Clinic located on University Parkway. The report is then set back to the Health Center for follow-up.

Insurance
Q. Does the Health Center accept insurance?
A. No. the student can pay with cash, check, or Nautilus card. If they can’t pay at time of visit, they have until the end of the semester to pay.
All information required for reimbursement from an insurance company is given to the patient when requested.
