Many students ask this question. The decision to join a fraternity or sorority is one of the most important decisions you will make in your college career. If you choose to join a fraternity or sorority, it will change your life forever. You make have heard that being in a Greek-letter organization is just part of the college experience but being Greek is a lifetime commitment. Not only will these organizations bring you numerous benefits while you are an undergrad, but they will also help you with your career post-graduation and allow you to form lifelong friendships. Your Greek organization, should you choose to join, will enhance your leadership skills, help you build your character, reward you with experiences in service environments, and ensure some fun in your hectic college schedule.
"I went Greek because I didn't know what I was looking for. When I found the women who became my sisters, I realized that I was never looking for anything but what found me: a family. A bond that could never be broken and a commitment that brought me happiness and relief. Joining a sorority has changed my life and helped me discover a whole new and better person within myself."
- Amanda "Beta Chi" (2011 Panhellenic Recruitment Counselor)

Fraternity Recruitment takes place at the beginning of each semester. The week begins with an event known as “Meet the Greeks”. Schedules will be released at Meet the Greeks by each fraternity letting you know their events for the rest of the week. Some events will take place on campus and others will be hosted at other sites. You are welcomed to attend as many events hosted by as many fraternities as you are interested in. The end of the recruitment week will culminate in the offering of formal bids. You will receive your bid in the Office of Greek Affairs on the last day of the week. While not all men who go through IFC Recruitment are offered an invitation for membership, it is the hope of the Greek Affairs staff that everyone receives a bid and the opportunity to join a Greek organization.
IIFC Spring Fraternity Recruitment will kick off on Monday, January 28th with Meet the Greeks in the Commons Auditorium. Come out to these events to ask questions about IFC Fraternities, Recruitment, and meet the men in each of the fraternities. By attending “Meet the Greeks” you will be able to meet men from each of the IFC Fraternities on UWF’s campus. No registration is needed in the Spring for Meet the Greeks, but before accepting a bid from an IFC organization you will need to file a Grade Release and Anti-Hazing form.

NPHC organizations have an Intake Process. This process happens at various times during the year at the discretion of each group. It is heavily encouraged that students do extensive research into the NPHC organizations by visiting their websites and reading historical documents about each group. New students can prepare themselves for an intake process by enrolling full-time in classes and maintaining an above average GPA. They should get involved in service to the campus and community, and work on their preparing and updating their resume.

Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment takes place every fall semester in a week known as Formal Recruitment. This year’s Formal Recruitment will take place Wednesday, September 11 to Sunday, September 15. Through the formal recruitment process you will be able to meet women from each Panhellenic sorority on UWF’s campus. To go through Formal Recruitment you must register online before Friday, September 6th and pay a $40 registration fee. Wednesday, September 11th
This will be your first glimpse into Panhellenic Sorority life at UWF. You will meet your Recruitment Counselors and the women who will be in your group. Open House will be your first opportunity to meet all four Panhellenic sororities. You will be going to each Sorority’s event for a simple “meet and greet”. This round is short and high energy, so relax and enjoy meeting new friends.
Thursday, September 12th
Philanthropy Night will allow you to see how each Panhellenic sorority you visit raises money and the importance of giving back to the community. Each chapter you visit will present a video or slideshow to inform you about their individual philanthropy. This round will be more hands on and give you a chance to learn more about each sorority you visit and their values.
Friday, September 14th
Skit Night is the round that portrays the fun side of each chapter and shows their unique personalities. Each sorority you visit will present a skit that expresses their ideals, involvement, and achievements.
Saturday, September 15th
This is the last round of the formal recruitment process. Preferential Tea shows the more serious side of each chapter’s sisterhood. Listen carefully to the songs and words you hear. The sisters are trying to show you what it means to be a part of their sisterhood.
Sunday, September 16th
It’s finally here! This is the day that invitations to join a Panhellenic sorority are distributed. Once bids are received, you will join your new sorority and enjoy the day with your new sisters.
Although not every woman will be offered an invitation for membership and some women choose not to complete the formal recruitment process, it is the hope of the Greek Affairs staff that each woman who goes through Formal Recruitment will be placed with a chapter. The end of Formal Recruitment culminates in the offering of Formal Bids. On “Bid Day”, those receiving invitations will find out what sorority they have been matched with. Both you and the sorority women will have a say in where you end up.
Kappa Delta will be a new sorority joining the Panhellenic Council in 2013. They will host their own 3 day recruitment after the completion of Fall Formal Panhellenic Recruitment. For more information contact the Office of Greek Affairs.
