DR. JAMES H. LANGSTON SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT NAMED
Fort Walton Beach, Fla. - On July 31, 2007 UWF Emerald Coast named Kate Wilson as the Dr. James H. Langston Scholarship recipient for 2007.
Wilson was honored during a luncheon at the Fort Walton Beach campus. Langston, along with his wife Marguerite, were able to meet the first recipient of the endowment, which was part of funding provided by First City Bank, the oldest independent, locally-owned bank on the Emerald Coast.
First City Bank committed $100,000 to the University of West Florida Foundation. The gift, which supports students attending UWF Emerald Coast campuses, was matched with another $50,000 from the state's matching gift program, establishing a $150,000 endowment in the name of First City Bank and Langston. Langston is a retired dentist from Fort Walton Beach and one of the bank's longest-serving board members.
"It was truly an honor to meet Dr. James Langston and his wife. They are both incredibly kind-hearted and inspiring people, who have given so much to this area. This scholarship has become a wonderful first step to making lifelong contacts. My major is Health Sciences, and my Master's is Public Health. The Ethics in Business scholarship provided by Dr. Langston holds one of the most important topics for my career field; Ethics. I hope I can carry forth the inspiration they have given me, to a lifelong career as fulfilling as his," said Wilson.
