LEVIN ESTATE PROVIDES ENDURING LEGACY FOR UWF STUDENTS
In memory of David Levin, a long-time Pensacola community leader and attorney, the David H. Levin Memorial Scholarship Endowment has been established within the University of West Florida Foundation, Inc. Gifted through a charitable remainder lead trust in Levin’s estate, the gift will fund need-based scholarship support for UWF students.
“When David first talked about this gift he told me that in addition to his own alma maters, Duke University and the University of Florida, he felt very strongly about supporting his ‘hometown’ university, UWF,” said Laverne Baker, member of the UWF Foundation Board of Directors and former development officer at UWF.
After receiving his law degree from the University of Florida, Levin joined the U.S. Air Force and spent one year in Korea. In 1955, he founded the law firm of Levin and Askew with his life-long friend, Ruben Askew. Today the firm, now Levin Papantonio Thomas Mitchell Echsner & Proctor, P.A., has a reputation for its top ranking lawyers—a tradition started by Levin. Levin died Jan. 7, 2002, however, his memory lives on through his named scholarship endowment and in the hearts of family, friends and respected community members.
“This legacy gift is another wonderful example of what David believed about helping people whenever possible,” said Baker. “I know he would be so pleased to know the many students who will benefit from his gift in years to come.”
