NATIONAL DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION ENDOWS SCHOLARSHIP

Due to the generous support of friends and alumni of the University of West Florida, the UWF Foundation was able to award $25,000 in study abroad scholarships to deserving students for fall 2008 and spring 2009.
The Gulf Coast Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association, a government/industry non-profit organization, recently established a new NDIA School of Science and Engineering Scholarship Endowment. The endowment will generate need-based support for students from the greater Eglin community who attend the University of West Florida and major in one of the school’s disciplines: computer science, computer and electrical engineering, math and physics.
This marks the second scholarship endowment that NDIA has created at UWF. The first was established in 2004 to benefit students from the greater Eglin community who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical program. Since the scholarship’s creation, a total of $11,000 in scholarship support has been awarded to 10 students.
“The University of West Florida is extremely grateful for the support that the National Defense Industrial Association, Gulf Coast Chapter, continues to provide to UWF students,” said Leo ter Haar, director of the UWF School of Science and Engineering. “We are honored its membership has decided to invest in our students with a second endowment. Its ongoing commitment to our institution is outstanding.”
NDIA is a non-profit educational association representing industry, government and all military services. Nearly 1,000 companies and 26,000 individuals build their businesses, careers and the future of the industrial base through NDIA membership.
