Mission StatementThe mission of the Department of Government is to educate students in the areas of government, politics, and international affairs, and by this means to foster more knowledgeable, informed, and active citizenship, as well as more enlightened future political leadership, in the communities to which they belong.
ProgramsThe Department of Government offers a B.A. in Political Science, including a Pre-Law option, a B.A. in International Studies, and an M.A. in Political Science. Ours are liberal arts programs, challenging students to think about timeless questions pertaining to the governance of human societies, such as the origin and evolution of law and justice, the workings of political institutions and processes, the exercise of political leadership, the comparative performance of regimes, problems of war and peace, and contemporary political issues.
Online M.A. Political Science Program Coming Summer 2013The Department of Government now offers fully online core coursework for the M.A. in Political Science program. By taking electives offered online, students can complete this program at a distance. Note this is a synchronous course delivery program, meaning that students are required to attend live lectures via Scopia, the university's free video conferencing service. Through this format, students benefit from face-to-face interaction with other students and faculty in real time while also enjoying the flexibility of online course delivery. The strengths of the online graduate program and students' success depend on these live interactions. For more information please contact the Department of Government at 850-474-2929.
