The application period for the 2010–2011 academic year will begin January 1, 2010. The 2010–2011 application covers Fall 2010, Spring 2011, and Summer 2011 semesters. Most students today are completing their FAFSA's online. Less than 1% of UWF students completed a paper application last year.

1. Apply for a federal pin number (student and parent). This pin number will serve as your electronic signature on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also know as the FAFSA.
   
   The pin website is www.pin.ed.gov. Pin numbers are issued in "real time" which means you can elect to receive your pin number immediately on the computer screen or via email. Otherwise, it will be mailed to you through regular mail in 7-10 days.
    
2. As soon as possible after January 1, complete the FAFSA on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you sign the FAFSA using your pin, and have provided your email address, the results are available in 1-3 days electronically. If the results are sent through regular mail, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) in 2-3 weeks. UWF’s school code is 003955.
   
   NOTE: Even if you are completing the pre-filled (renewal) FAFSA, a signature/pin is required for you (and parent, if applicable). Failure to electronically sign, or to print and mail the signature page, will result in a rejected SAR.
    
3. The University of West Florida has an Institutional Financial Aid Application that MUST be completed in addition to the FAFSA. The 2010-2011 form will be available January 4 under the Online Forms link.
   

***Please ensure that both forms are completed timely and accurately. UWF awards aid on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is also important to understand that you must complete both of these forms every year.

NOTE: If for some reason you are unable to complete the forms electronically, you may complete the UWF Institutional Application on-line in the Financial Aid Office. If you need a paper FAFSA, this must be obtained by contacting the Federal Student Aid Processing Center at (800) 433-3243.
