All hands on deck...
We are ready to set a new course for UWF. Because we are all on the same ship, we must work together to move our vessel onto the Sea of Excellence. Each member...officers and crew...has specific responsibilities and every person in every job is accountable for the success of the voyage.
Navigating beyond the expected...
Rather than choose to drift along with the status quo, we can choose to lead the way. In a world filled with the “expected,” we can explore ways to move past the expected, to create better services and better solutions.
What is "making way?"
“Making way” is a nautical expression for a ship making progress. Envision a ship cutting swiftly through the water, on course, with full sails, tuned rigging and a trusted hand at the helm.
What is “excellence?”
For us, it is creating a learning environment like no other...a place where creativity, caring in its largest sense and intellectual excellence are intrinsic to the people who work and study here...a place where nothing is more important than maintaining personal relationships that nurture the mind and spirit, to empower those we serve as well as each of us, to reach our full potential.
For what’s next...
On our voyage from good to great, we are focusing on opportunities for personal development and caring relationships that will enable us to take responsibility for what’s next.
From The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran
“Your reason and your passion are the rudder and the sails of your seafaring soul.
If either your sails or your rudder be broken, you can but toss and drift,
or else be held at a standstill in mid-seas.
For reason, ruling along, is a force confining; and passion, unattended, is a flame
that burns to its own destruction.
Therefore let your soul exalt your reason to the height of passion, that it may sing;
And let it direct your passion with reason, that your passion may live through its own
daily resurrection, and like the phoenix rise above its own ashes.”
