in Tallahassee on May 13.
The Florida Department of Financial Services' Risk Management Division presented the highest level of award for Safety Programs to the University of West Florida EH&S. The award was presented at a meeting of the Interagency Advisory Council on Loss Prevention in Tallahassee on May 13. Of the 45 State agencies and Universities, only 7 received the Gold Award and UWF was the only State University.
The inscription on the plaque states: "This award recognizes the recipient's outstanding efforts in loss prevention through an objective comparison of the recipient's safety program to established best practices in loss prevention. The recipient of this award is recognized by the Interagency Advisory Council on Loss Prevention as having one of the best safety programs in the state."
In compliance with State Statute, each State Agency and University must submit a yearly Safety and Loss Prevention evaluation to the Risk Management Division. The evaluations are reviewed and outstanding programs are chosen and verified, the programs are classified for three levels of awards, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Last year UWF achieved a Bronze Level award. The EH&S staff was challenged to achieve a higher award this year and the staff met the challenge.
