Academic Advising Steve Celestial BLDG/RM 58/62I Pensacola Campus 850-474-2885 scelestial@uwf.edu Dr. George Stewart BLDG/RM, 58/79 Pensacola Campus 850-473-7226 gstewart@uwf.edu Program Information The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences is a two-year "capstone" degree program designed to provide persons holding A.A., A.S. or A.A.S. degrees from an accredited two-year college with an opportunity to pursue a B.S. in one of eight areas: Aging Studies, Allied Health, Communication, Health Administration, Health Care Ethics, Health Care Professional, Medical Information Technology, and Psychology of Health. The core of the curriculum is available online as well as the Allied Health and Health Care Professional concentrations. Allied Health professions are the allies in healthcare systems, the support professions distinct from the medical and nursing professions that work together to make the healthcare system function. At the Associate's level, allied health professionals are often the licensed professionals involved in the delivery of health services. Allied health professionals pursuing a Bachelor's degree (and beyond!) are those seeking additional responsibilities in leadership, communication, education, or research during their careers. At UWF, the Allied Health track of the Bachelor of Sciences in Health Sciences prepares students to be proficient in a variety of areas, including basic legal fundamentals of health care and public health, computer literacy (including documentation of health care information and database management), and interpersonal communication skills. Students in this field study health information systems, advances in health sciences research and technology, and learn to apply their knowledge of health economics to guide sound business analysis and decision making in health care. This core is complemented with courses covering diseases, drugs, and cross-cultural areas, such as end of life ethics and gerontology. Finally, courses in public health and disaster management round out this program to provide global perspectives on allied health and also help students to comprehend the complex and inter-related issues surrounding national and international population changes. a master's degree that is the most widely recognized professional
credential for leadership in public health. The goal of the program
is to provide students with a high quality, multidisciplinary perspective
on public health. The MPH is an extremely valuable degree which is
increasing in value in the public health job market due to projected
retirements in the field and to dramatic increases in public health
problems in the U.S. and abroad.

Public Health (Online) Student Organization Information Student Association for Public Health The MPH houses the Student
Association for Public Health which is a student service organization
to which all majors in the MPH belong. Students plan the events in
which SAPH participates some of which are community service and others
of which are organizational fund-raisers. Automatic induction upon

Your internship experience in the MPH program will include 6 semester hours of practical skills, documenting application of the knowledge, skills, and academic objectives of the MPH degree program. In the internship setting, the student is directly supervised by a public health professional on-site, as well as a faculty member who oversees the student's training experience. During the course of the internship experience, the student participates in public health and administrative activities, as a member of the professional public health staff. Students completing this specialization will be qualified to interview for positions with a wide variety of companies specializing in biotechnology, biomedicine, medical and scientific equipment and pharmaceuticals.
